Emily and Matthew met when they were both in the transplant ward at John’s Hopkins Hospital. Before an age where Matthew really understood what a friendship was, Emily was his first friend. She looked after him like an older sister would, coming by his room every day when she could to check on him, and asked if he could ‘come out and play’. They would race their Big Wheels around the hospital floor with their moms running behind them making sure their IVs didn’t come loose. Emily is our inspiration and her legacy has been impacting cancer families for nearly 30 years.
